This season has some hot trends for the guys, mixing up a few last year’s firm favourites with new pieces that will keep you hot for summer. Here’s our summer fashion tips for men that will keep you (looking) cool as the season warms up.
Geek chic
This is the look that just won’t go away. And like any good nerd (for fashion or otherwise) you’ll need a great set of eyewear to set this off – something like a classic pair of Tom Ford sunglasses will really get your clever kind of cool vibe going. Add some Converse-style shoes, close-cut jeans and layer up your t-shirts. Geek. And chic. And so easy to pull together.
Pattern on pattern
Just because it doesn’t match doesn’t mean it doesn’t go. Try a wild and summery patterned shirt, when a check or other geometric pattern on your shorts to get the summer look rocking. The patterns themselves don’t matter – just think about the size of the designs on the items you put together – the colours and shapes can be totally different but if they’re similar in scale they’ll gel together better.
Baseball caps
These are back just in time for the summer sunshine. Looking at what’s going down the catwalks we’ll be switching things up with different tones and shapes, just keep 90’s street style as your inspiration. A washed out baseball cap is great for a casual look (and for keeping a lid on your bed head) but top off a colourful look for a big night with a simple cap in black or navy.
Wide-legged trousers
Just in time to free our ankles for summer the wide-legged mens trouser is one of the great looks of the season. Keep things casual by rolling up a little at the bottom, adding a crisp white shirt and slipping on shoes without socks. Easy to wear for a day out and just about over the line for wearing in the office, a few of these in navy or neutral tones are definitely a great investment.
The Cuban Collar
As we crack out the short sleeves fashion’s hottest collections are rolling back the years to the open, lapel-like collared style that once rocked the 50s. On the catwalk they’re looking loose, but for everyday keep them fairly close-cut (even more so if you’re ripped) and the look low-key overall. They look great in plain and neutral designs – and if you’re going full 50s keep them tucked into a slightly loose pair of trousers. Finish the outfit with a slicked back look and you’ll be fashion-forward with your classy retro style.
There’s a great mix of old and new ideas making their way into the shops this season. And whether you’re dressing to impress or casually chilling there’s pieces to keep you looking cool as the weather heats up. Roll back the years, roll up your collar and get your hot summer moving.
