I really enjoyed my recent trip to Perth, because of its relative isolation I found the city to be better all round than some of the other cities I’d visited in Australia such as Canberra, Brisbane and Sydney.
Sydney is of course different but Perth for me had a certain “joie de vivre” spirit that I really took to.
Eating and drinking here is a treat, the inner city has numerous quaint little bars, they have an excellent atmosphere and offer up some lovely areas to enjoy a beer in the sun. Perth enjoys not only the amber nectar but also adores the vino! The city is surrounded by wineries, some award winning, and provides the city with some absolutely beautiful wines. Regarding food Perth really does provide, whether you enjoy fish, meat, salads, BBQ or all of the above there is a really good variety of restaurants and cafés here.
Perth, like many cities loves its coffee, the real barista stuff, none of this instant machine nonsense. I dwindled many hours away in the cafés when I was in Perth actually, just an hour here and an hour there watching the world go by.
In terms of nightlife Perth bars don’t disappoint, one thing I felt on the few occasions I went out was that it was very social. Now I don’t mean that to sound like lazy language but in all the bars, clubs that I visited, there were a lot of large groups of friends, lots of talking, laughing, dancing, I didn’t feel any sense of pressure when I was out if that makes sense.

The best night out I had was actually in a casino, the Crown casino and hotel was brilliant. I was with my friend and we got a tip off that this was a good night out and I’m pleased with took the advice, this place had 6 bars! I mean who wouldn’t want to chill out in a place called the ‘Groove bar and lounge?’ And chill out we did, enjoyed some drinks before going for what resulted in a profitable night in the casino. The hotel and some really nice places to eat as well, the total package for me and I had a brilliant night there, a definite recommendation.
Lastly I want to mention the popularity of high tea in Perth, a mid afternoon cuppa with a cake or some savoury treats. High tea is a really nice experience, very low key (unless you add champagne!) and there are places popping up offering it across the city.
